Meta keeps Apple’s AI out of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp (2025)

Meta keeps Apple’s AI out of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp (1)

Despite its flaws, Apple Intelligence packs some useful features. Among them, Writing Tools lets you rewrite, summarize, and proofread text using AI.

Sadly, you cannot use Writing Tools to draft your Facebook posts or WhatsApp chats, as Meta blocks the use of this feature in its apps.

No Writing Tools in Meta apps

By default, iOS apps include support for Writing Tools. But if they wish to, developers can turn off this feature. As spotted by SorcererHat and for reasons best known to Meta, the company does not support Writing Tools support in its iOS apps: Facebook, WhatsApp, and Threads.

This has been the case since last November when Apple Intelligence debuted. So, unlike other apps, long-pressing the text field in these apps won’t bring up Writing Tools. The same restriction also applies to the WhatsApp app on Mac.

Meta hasn’t officially explained why its apps don’t support Writing Tools. However, since it already offers Meta AI within these apps, it likely wants to steer users toward its AI solution.

In recent months, the company ramped up efforts to integrate Meta AI deeply across its products and services. With a recent Instagram update, Meta also removed the ability to use Apple Intelligence’s Genmoji as stickers on the platform. Instead, users can now only use Instagram’s built-in stickers.

Interestingly, at one point, reports suggest Apple and Meta reportedly held talks for an AI partnership for Apple Intelligence.

Meta and Apple’s rivalry runs deep

Given the history between the two companies, such a move from Meta comes as no surprise.

Unfortunately, if you rely on Writing Tools to quickly draft social media content, you cannot tap into its AI magic on Meta’s platforms. As a workaround, you can draft the content using Writing Tools in Apple Notes or any other note app of your choice. Then, paste it in Facebook, Instagram, or Threads. Admittedly, the process feels clunky and inconvenient. But that’s your only solution if you like using Writing Tools.
